This work shall include the installation of 816 feet of 25.80”OD HDPE force main installed by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) along the south side of Harbor View Road from the intersection of Waites Drive to North Shore Drive, an 86 feet 20” ID C905 PVC open-cut crossing of Harbor View Road, the installation of 3,274 feet of 25.80” OD HDPE force main installed by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to the North Shore Drive intersection beneath James Island Creek and adjacent tidal marshes from a new force main Junction location within Harbor View Circle, the installation of 1,110 feet of 36” OD HDPE force main installed by horizontal directional drilling (HDD from the Harbor View Circle junction location beneath tidal marshes to an existing 24” ID DIP force main junction assembly located at the entrance of the CPW Plum Island Wastewater Treatment facility. The Project shall include modification of two existing force main junction assemblies, a new junction assembly at Harbor View Circle, air release valve structures, and dual flow metering installations on an existing CWS Plum Island Headworks influent 24” DIP Riser.
Additional updates:
– The formal Pre-Construction Conference was held on the afternoon of Thursday October, 31st.
– Mobilization to begin installation of sedimentation and erosion control barriers and selective clearing at HDD entry/pull-back sites along Harbor View Road is scheduled to begin in early December.
– A Notice-to-Proceed with Construction will be issued following notification of mobilization.
– Material delivery for HDPE force main pipe and large plug valves remains the major hinderance to the start of drill rig mobilization. Contractor efforts of seek other AIS compliant valve sources to accelerate delivery have not been successful thus far.
– Based upon recent material availability for delivery on-site, the installation of HDD piping will begin early in 1st Quarter 2025.
– Contractor is starting installation of sedimentation and erosion control barriers.
– Material delivery for HDPE force main pipe and large plug valves still remains the major hindrance to the start of drill rig mobilization.
– Pipe delivery is expected in early January with valves coming in the March to May time frame.
– HDD pipe delivery and fusing will start after the first of the year.
– Drill-3 along the south side of Harbor View Road passed the pressure test.
– CCTV of Drill-3 is complete and will be reviewed once it has been submitted.
– Traffic Control devices and signage on Harbor View Road are still installed but right turns are now allowed onto North Shore. Traffic control will remain in place until internal CCTV evaluation has been received and approved.
– The Drill-1 larger HDD Drill rig is scheduled to be mobilized on-site at the CWS Harbor View Circle site in May for the Drill-1 from the drill site to the entry of the CWS Plum Island WWTF. HDPE piping delivery is complete and now awaiting fusing.
